Holly Filius is a Partner of RKG Law. She joined the firm in 1998 after serving as a Law Clerk to Commissioner Harold B. Fergus, Jr. of the Workers Compensation Appeal Board and as Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Michael J. Brillhart of the Court of Common Pleas of York County.
A significant portion of Holly’s legal practice involves helping families and individuals in all matters of Family Law. Her knowledge and experience places her clients at an advantage in settlement negotiations and in the Courtroom when litigation is inevitable. Holly is an aggressive advocate who understands the toll that family law matters take on her client’s mental and emotional well-being and strives to do all that she can to get the best results possible.
Holly understands the importance of taking the time to help clients thoroughly understand their rights and options and explains what should be expected throughout the legal process while developing a strategy to best meet her client’s goals. Her extensive family law experience includes complex litigation for clients with significant assets, high income, and business interests.
For more than 25 years, Holly has enjoyed assisting individuals and families throughout the adoption process, representing clients in adoptions through the foster care system, private adoptions, stepparent adoptions, second-parent adoptions and international adoptions. She works collaboratively with county and private agencies to finalize adoptions and also directly facilitates adoptions between birth parents and adoptive parents in private adoption placements. Holly has considerable experience representing clients in contested adoption matters and has crafted multiple Post-Adoption Contact Agreements. She also has been privileged to assist clients looking to grow their family through Assisted Reproductive Technology. Holly is passionate about adoption and her thorough knowledge of the law and courtroom experience has resulted in hundreds of successful adoptions.
In addition to her work in Family Law, Holly advises clients on Estate Planning and Estate Administration. Many clients seek her guidance when they are interested in determining how their assets should be dealt with upon their death, how to protect their children’s financial future and how to identify to ensure that they are properly supported should an issue of incapacity arise. Holly also represents individuals and families in the probate and administration of estates and recognizes the need to care for these clients during what is most often an extremely difficult time in their lives. Her handling of the legal matters in an estate allows clients to focus on their grieving process knowing that the legal requirements of the probate and administration process are being handled appropriately and efficiently.
Holly is involved in many community and professional groups, including the Lancaster County Bar Association where she was a past Family Law Section Chairperson, the S. June Smith Foundation where she sits on the Board of Directors and was a past President, the Lampeter Strasburg High Boys Lacrosse Boosters, where she is President, the Lampeter Strasburg High School PTO, the Southern Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce where she has previously held Board and committee chairperson positions and where she continues to be active in committees and events. Holly previously acted as a Board member for the Pennsylvania State Foster Parent Association and has presented at several seminars on various topics including family law issues and adoption for the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Lancaster County Bar Association, the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce Women’s Business Section and the Southern Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce. Holly is often sought out by her colleagues and private and county agencies on complex adoption issues.
Holly’s greatest achievement is her two sons with whom she and her husband, John, reside in West Lampeter Township.
